Speech and language evaluations include both standardized and non-standardized measures. The evaluation time varies depending on the areas requiring assessment (e.g. speech/articulation only, speech and expressive/receptive language, fluency samples/assessment, social language, narrative, etc). Frequently Asked Questions

  • Prior evaluations may be accepted if completed within the last 6 months and if report covers areas in which therapy is being requested. For example, a client requesting speech/articulation therapy, must have an evaluation in the area of speech sound development. If additional areas of concern arise (e.g. challenges with language tasks in the classroom) additional testing may be required.

  • At this time, Summit Speech Services is an out-of-network provider, which means that we do not bill insurance companies for our services. It also means that we can optimize time with children and families by reducing qualification and paperwork requirements. However, upon request, we are able to provide you with a Super Bill for applicable speech services. This is a form that you can submit to your insurance company to attempt to get reimbursement for our services through your out-of-network benefits. Summit Speech Services accepts payment at the time of service using cash, check, Zelle or Venmo.

  • Length of services depends on many variables including motivation, attendance, severity, and diagnosis. Summit Speech Services will work together with their clients to determine the best therapy plan. Home practice activities will be provided to reinforce skills taught in therapy sessions. Regular practice is crucial for carryover over skills and often impact length of service.

  • In a public school system, a child’s speech-language needs must demonstrate “adverse educational impact”. In a private practice, we may be able to provide services that your child may need based on the results of the comprehensive evaluation regardless of school eligibility.

  • SLPs can evaluate, diagnose, and treat speech, language, dyslexia, cognition, communication, and swallowing disorders. They can provide training and education to client/family/caregivers and other professionals. To learn more about what Speech-Language Pathologists do, click here.
